This interior design position is ideal for someone who has experience in or is interested in higher education, with the mindset of enhancing the human experience within applied learning environments.  At GLMV we are value driven, hard workers who strive to seize big ideas and make them real. Interior Designers at GLMV collaborate with team members to achieve creative solutions for our clients through programming, space planning, design, and implementation of finish schemes.  We value providing an atmosphere for employees to push their boundaries through personal and professional growth. Considering function, aesthetics, safety, and economy the interior designer uses knowledge of methods, materials, codes, and regulations (with skill and creativity) to design spaces that meet and balance the client’s requests.  Designers prepare presentations of their recommendations for interior finishes and furnishings and prepare construction drawings and specifications for each project.  This position reports to a senior interior design professional and collaborates with multidisciplinary team members.

Responsibilities

  • Meet with clients and/or project teams to program the project requirements. From project conception to construction administration.
  • Develop design concepts & present in project meetings with clients
  • Implement building and accessibility codes throughout each design
  • Prepare digital presentations with finish selections, furnishings, fixtures, and lighting.
  • Create sample boards
  • Draw and render interior design concepts in Revit model
  • Take accurate as-built measurements for developing floor plans and elevations
  • Prepare and update documents during schematic design, design development and construction administration
  • Respond to RFIs and check shop drawings
  • Engage in continuing education related to product updates, industry trends and professional certification.
  • Develop relationships with materials and furnishings manufacturer reps.
  • Schedule and perform work as needed within the team to meet project deadlines
  • Participate in project team interviews
  • May create project budgets

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Considerable knowledge of current trends in interior design and finishes
  • Possess a high level of technical proficiency in Revit drawing production
  • Working knowledge of material, and product costs
  • Self-motivated and well organized.
  • Strong collaboration and relationship building skills
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills using the English language
  • Ability to review, and edit specifications
  • Ability to prepare furniture cost estimates
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines
  • Ability to travel
  • Ability to inspect sites and buildings

Required Experience and Credentials

  • Interior Design Degree from a CIDA accredited University
  • 2 or more years of experience
    • Preferred experience with (higher-ed/commercial/developer driven/PPP
  • Proficient in Revit & rendering software
  • Experience with FF&E procurement and specification
  • NCIDQ preferred
  • Experience with higher education, commercial, and/or developer drive projects preferred; experience with public private partnership projects a plus.

GLMV has an opportunity for a project architect to take responsibility for specific clients and the design, planning, preparation, and delivery of their projects.  Projects are quick turn-around restaurant renovations, remodels and expansions as well as new construction.   The work is fast-paced and requires daily interaction with client representatives, code officials and external project partners.  Some travel is required for site analysis, documentation and assessment of existing conditions, and construction administration as needed.  This is production, management, and occasionally supervisory position is accountable for delivering projects on time and within budget, and reports to a senior project manager.

Responsibilities

  • Meet directly with client, analyze client goals and conceive and develop solutions to those goals within franchise, community and regulatory parameters.
  • Plan the project budget, milestones, and schedule and track project performance accordingly
  • Initiate and create schematic designs and plans with responsibility for the preparation of drawings
  • Coordinate workload through design development and construction document phases to complete documents on schedule.
  • Direct and coordinate with the engineering disciplines and third-party equipment vendors, reviewing construction documents for areas of conflict with all disciplines.
  • Write/edit owner provided architectural specifications.
  • Plan, initiate, and run project meetings, setting agendas, and issuing meeting minutes
  • Ensure code and accessibility compliance utilizing several competing and often conflicting building, life safety, health, and accessibility codes.
  • Coordinates addendum, ASI, RFIs, WCPRs and Change Orders and is responsible to incorporate agreed upon changes into the project documents.
  • Execute construction administration using Owner provided web-based workspace.
  • Analyze and negotiate pay applications and change orders
  • Report project completion for billing, approve invoices, and lead any necessary collections activities
  • Provide supervision and guidance to others assigned to facilitate the delivery of a project,

  • Excellent written and communication skills–ability to speak and write clearly and concisely and to relate well to others at all levels and use diplomacy and tact
  • Planning and organization skills –ability to start and complete projects independently, using time effectively and efficiently, and managing multiple priorities
  • Ability to juggle multiple priorities—working closely with numerous owner representatives and their clients on different projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to cope with change, can shift gears comfortably, can decide and act without having the total picture, can comfortably handle risk and uncertainty
  • Ability to move between running projects independently or through a team and participating in projects under the leadership of others

Physical requirements essential to the job to be included.

  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing using a variety of computer based audio-visual tools.
  • Ability to produce own work using computers, keyboards, mouse and monitors.

This brand management professional is responsible for specific client relationships and the planning, preparation, and delivery of a high volume of quick turn-around restaurant renovation, remodel and expansion projects as well as new construction. This is production, management, and occasionally supervisory position is accountable for delivering projects on time and within budget, and reports to the studio lead in service to the client’s industry.  Specific production contributions will include site analysis and development, concept design review; brand management review, preparation and submittal of  site reports.  The work is fast-paced and requires daily interaction with client representatives, code officials and external project partners.  Travel will be required for site analysis, documentation and assessment of existing conditions, local jurisdictional meetings, and construction administration as needed.  Pleasant working environment with professional, technical, and collaborative coworkers accustomed to wearing different hats.

Required Experience and Credentials
The successful candidate will be a Registered Architect  with 8 years of professional experience with multi-state, multi-build projects. Restaurant and/or franchise development experience is preferred.  Experience should include client relations management and project oversight through coordination and collaboration with others.  Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
